TBBT, Grey’s, OUAT in Wonderland, TVD, and more: Thursday Roundup

So there wasn’t like anything on TV last night…It’s not like I still have 4 other shows to catch up on from last night…oye…

The Romance ResonanceThe Big Bang Thoery: This may have been one of my all-time favorite episodes. Howard’s love song to Bernadette? Perfection. Seriously, was that not the most hilariously adorably romantic thing ever? And I’d Probably Still Live with my Mom. Sooo cute.

Also I love that Penny is trying so hard to show Leonard how much she cares. We’re so used to seeing Leonard overly showing Penny his affections that its really great to see Penny trying. And I thought it was great that she saved all the stuff he has given her over the years because that felt like something Penny would do as opposed to something trivial or fake. It was super sweet.

And of course seeing Sheldon go from being insanely egotistical to insanely vulnerable within one episode was great. Jim Parsons was brilliant last night.

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland: I am still on the fence about this spin-off. I really don’t know how to feel about it. I am not really interested in Cyrus and Alice. I would much rather watch Alice and Will fight to takedown the Red Queen, who we learned was Wills old lover, than Alice’s quest to save Cyrus. I guess it’s because I just don’t see the chemistry between those two. Alice and Will have WAY MORE chemistry and are way more fun to watch.

I do wonder about why they are showing Robin Hood in this show when ratings seem to indicate that not as many people are watching both shows. Are we going to relearn Robin’s beliefs again in OUAT? Hmmmm…

Also, I want to see more of the Catapillar and the slimy deals he makes. I wonder if he and Rumple ever crossed paths…

Grey’s Anatomy: I refuse to believe that this is how they are writing off Christina. This can’t be it; it’s a fate worse than death, in my opinion. I don’t want to watch Christina lose all the people she loves, like Meredith, because she’s pushed them all away. Instead I think Christina needs to realize that she has outgrown Seattle and needs to work somewhere else. Meredith even said that she needs to be challenged. If Christina can come to this realization and still keep her friendship with Meredith, than I will be a much happier viewer.

Poor Alex. But who couldn’t see that coming? Maybe him re-connecting with his father is what he needs to have a functional relationship with Jo. Its clear that she just wants to help. She still barely knows him and him blaming her is classic Alex. I just hope he can apologize to her and let her in. I have never seen any girl make him laugh and smile the way she does. I think she might be his person but if he doesn’t get his issues with his family under control than they’ll never make it. But I will say this-it was pretty damn cool to see Justin Chambers and James Remer jam out for a bit. Soo cool.

And one more thing- Arizona IS THE WORST! Not only is she continuing to cheat on Callie but she’s also USING an intern. Poor Murphy may get overly attached but Arizona now knows this and is still stringing her along. I hope Callie divorces her ass AND takes away Sophia. At this point Arizona doesn’t deserve either of them.

For Whom the Bell Tolls

The Vampire Diaries:  Oooh the nostaligia in this episode! Was it not the cutest thing? I may not be 100% on board with this whole AmnesiaStefan plot but I did love seeing Elena tell him the story of their love. From the memories to the music…I was filled with such happiness. But then Elena told Stefan about how she’s with Damon and then all went to crap. Stefan went of the wagon but not before telling Caroline that he’s going to be there for her the way she is to him. It was super sweet. PLEASE DON’T HOOK THESE TWO UP! I want them to be besties and that’s it.

The Memorial for Bonnie was pretty sad. I cried. But I have to say, it’s still a little weird since she’s still hanging around watching everybody. But hey, at least it brought Tyler back!

And what the hell is up with that Professor? What ever it is, it can’t be good.

Reign:  This show is weird. I don’t even know how I feel about it just yet. It intriguing, I’ll defiantly give it that but I can’t ignore how THEY ignore Mary’s history. The show seems to be setting itself up for a love triangle between Francis, Mary, and Bash but Mary does indeed marry Francis (even if it is only for a year…) I just don’t know how they are going to work around that. But I do like the supernatural elements to the show and I find the supporting characters interesting. Francis mom could possibly give Cersei Lannister a run for her money as TVs more wackadoo mother.

Scandal: Shit is about to EXPLOAD. Mellie can’t keep her mouth shut (But OMG if Bellamy Young isn’t the most awesome actress on TV at the moment), Olivia wants away from her father and Jake (but that all changed at the end…HOT MAKEOUT ALERT!), Fitz is starting to bring up Remington, Abby and David are hooking up again, and Huck wants to kill again. Talk about an episode FILLED with Drama! And I can’t wait to see more of Lisa Kudrow’s character. I feel like they are going to transform her the way The Good Wife transformed Matthew Perry-into a total badass who doesn’t just need comedic chops.

How I Met Your Mother Review: The Locket/Coming Back

627I can’t believe that was the last season premiere of How I Met Your Mother ever. I can’t believe that this whole season is taking place of a weekend. A WEEKEND! Yeah I wasn’t to thrilled about that either. I can’t believe that they are still trying to deal with this whole Ted in love with Robin idiocy. I can’t believe that we FINALLY met the mother and you know what? She’s kinda wonderful. But most of all, I can’t believe that we got a scene with Ted and the Mother. That really made this premiere special.
I have to say, I love the Mother. I mean REALLY love her. Cristin Milioti’s performance was downright perfect. From her scenes with Lily (and the fact that they both use the phrase ‘sumbitch’) to that beautiful last scene with Ted, I knew instantly that she was the right choice. I instantly felt like she could easily fit in with our lovable gang and not feel like an odd man out. She’s charming, beautiful, and just as awkward as the rest of them. And you know what else I loved? The mother’s confidence. This is a lady who is pretty sure about herself and we’ve only seen her for two episodes. I can’t wait to see the rest of her meetings with Robin, Barney, Marshall, probably even James, and finally that moment when she meets Ted. Adding the mother to the series this season was a smart move and I am glad the Bayes and Thomas decided do it!

Coming Back

The rest of the episode was typical HIMYM silliness. Marshall is stuck on a road trip with Sheri Shephard, which I think might actually be pretty great, Barney and Robin are going to have many many hiccups before the walk down that isle-including Ted. I really wish they would just move on from that story line. I really don’t care about Ted and Robin anymore, especially now that we’ve met the Mother. Can they please get rid of that storyline quick? That would be awesome.

So if my calculations are right we have about 53 hours and 30 minutes (and 22 episodes) until Ted meets the mother. It’s going to be a lonnnnng weekend. But I think they are going to make this work. I hope we get to see an episode where the mother gets to narrate. And I hope that we maybe get to see Rachel Bilson’s character back as well. Also…now that we know that Ted went to Los Angelos, does this mean we are going to see the return of Stella? That would be interesting. I guess we’ll have to wait and see!

The Good Wife Season Premiere Review: A New Day

I knew we were in for a new brand of sexy when The Good Wife released their new promo images this summer but man…that was nothing compared to what we saw last night.

I am so happy that this show is back. I have missed it dearly.

The Good Wife is now in its third season and they have Emmy wins under their belt, they are a critical darling of network TV, and most of all they have moved to that prime 9pm Sunday timeslot. This is a fresh start for them, just like it is for Alicia and I have got to say I think it’s working out well for them.

Let’s get the case of the week storyline out of the way first shall we? In typical Good Wife fashion, the case of the week revolves around a current political hot topic, the Arab Spring. A Muslim college student is accused of murdering a fellow Jewish student and the States Attorney’s office, i.e. Peter and Cary, are trying to say that the motive was that he killed the guy for religious reasons. It turns out that this is not the case; in fact the accused isn’t guilty, his roommate is. Turns out that his roommate was gay and he killed his lover out of jealousy.

However that wasn’t the writers wanted us to take away from this episode. This case of the week showed us how Peter as states attorney and separate husband of Alicia, is going to handle her in court; and it isn’t pretty. The great thing about Peter is that he knows Alicia, as much she’d like think that he doesn’t, and he knows her well. Mix that with Cary’s competiveness against Alicia, and we are in for a fiery season folks and I for one can’t wait!

Eli also has a new role at Lockhart Gardner and he is already hard at work, when he is not trying to figure out what is different about Alicia. Eli is asked to take on a Pro-Muslim PR campaign as a crisis management project. However, in conjunction with the case of the week, it doesn’t go over that well and Eli manipulates his way into getting a multi-million dollar Jewish client (TAUB!!!) instead. Oh Eli, you are such a sneaky one aren’t you?

And then there is Alicia and Will, who last we saw were finalllly getting together after two seasons of the annoying will the/won’t they scheme that so many shows like to use. During the beginning of the episode you could tell that Alicia had a whole new look to her, a new haircut and new spring to her step. She looked happier, looser, and sexier and everyone could tell that there was something different about her. Then we saw a scene with her and Will early on in the episode that made it look like he was cutting off their little fling, Alicia looked sad and frustrated.

But oh no, we couldn’t be more wrong. They pulled a fast one on us and we saw may have been the sexiest scene to ever grace network television. I mean, is that kind of scene even allowed on network TV??  As we saw, Will and Alicia have not given up their little affair. They are still going hot and heavy. But if the last scene of the episode showed us anything, Alicia might be having second thoughts.

I sure hope they know where they are going with this because Alicia is headed down an interesting path and it is sure to cause lots and lots of drama! I, for one, can’t wait!!

Other thoughts:

~I love that Cary is becoming more and more confident each season. He just gets hotter and hotter as each season progresses and I love it. More scenes with him and Kalinda please!

~ Sooo did anyone else think that this new tutor storyline with Grace may lead to some experimentation on her part? I always thought Grace might be one to bat for the other team and if she is, I hope the writers do this storyline justice. Just imagine the kind of field day Eli would have with that one. It makes me giggle just thinking about it!

~I liked the scene with Kalinda and Will. They have a nice dynamic. I hope they develop a good friendship this season. She needs a friend.

~Kalinda and Pooch. SPIN OFF PLEASE!!!

2 Broke Girls Review: Pilot

I want to talk about my love for 2 Broke Girls.

I don’t love 2 Broke Girls because one of the lead characters has the name Caroline, (ok maybe that might be part of it); I love it because it is a smart, witty, charming, and funny comedy that has characters that are not all that annoying and actually interesting.

I knew right after seeing the promos for 2 Broke Girls that this show was going to be hilarious. The show is about 2 chicks in Brooklyn working at a diner, one who has lived on the side of poverty her whole life, named Max (played by the always charming, Kat Dennings) and the other who just lost all of her money thanks to her father’s poor investments, named Caroline (played by newcomer Beth Behrs). They come together when Caroline is hired on as the new waitress and she takes a notice to Max’s cupcakes. After finding out that her boyfriend has been cheating on her, Max invites Caroline to live with her as they begin to plan their new cupcake business.

It’s not the most original premise, in fact it’s very Odd Couple-esqe but it works. The creators have created fully realized characters whose backstories I am extremely interested in. Caroline could have easily been a bratty spoiled rich girl who could have sucked the air out of the room every time she appeared on screen but she is the exact opposite.  She is smart and funny and has a sharp tongue that can keep up with Kat Denning’s, Max. She wasn’t anything like that socialite mother, Peach, that Max nanny’s for. I hope they get rid of her fast. She was bland and uninteresting.

Then there is an interesting supporting cast. There is the old black dude host, Earl, played by Garrett Morris, who has witty one liners and then there is the fat Russian cook, Oleg (Played by Jonathan Kite) who always hits on Max. The manager of the diner is a Chinese dude named Han Lee ( Matthew Moy) who wants to change is first name to Bryce. The cast all has a lot of chemistry with each other which is very important in setting up a comedy.

I am a fan of this show. I will be watching week after week for as long as it lasts as long as it uses these characters to their fullest potential. Which I think they can. Don’t get me wrong, this is not the best new comedy of the year, that award goes high and fly to MTV’s Awkward, but this has potential to be a really great series. Just think of all the adventures these two broke girls can get themselves into in NYC. See what I mean? Full of potential! Lets hope they do this show justice!

What did everyone else think?

Emmy Predictions

The EMMYS are TOMORROW!!!! So I figured it was time to list my predictions for who will, should, and want to win. It’s pretty basic nothing extensive but it works! The Good Wife Season Finale Review: Closing Arguments

“What if we were to suddenly have good timing, just for… an hour?…What would that look like?”~Will

“I think… that would look like an exceptional moment.”~Alicia

Good God I love this show. As many of you know by now, I have a deep love for The Good Wife. Over the past two years it has quickly become one of my favorite dramas on television; a show that I try and watch live every week because it is just too good to miss. This season was absolutely sensational (with the exception of a few odd episodes here and there but I am starting to blame CBS for those episodes more so than the writers); taking what they had from season one and making it grow into something amazing.  I have no idea how I am going to survive another summer without this show but after that final scene last night, I have a feeling I will be able to make it.

The episode’s case of the week followed the suit of some of their best episodes, the ones where there is always a ticking clock. The defendant this week, played by Seth Gilliam (their billionth Wire guest star), was the accused judge killer. The firm had a day to process new evidence, the bloody glove that had been secretly given to them, and find a way use it in court to get the cast dismissed. The case was yet another distraction to the real events that were going on but paved way for some interesting developments that would pave way to season three.

Eli finds a reason to stay

While the big case was being held and the firm was rushing around to figure out how nail the coffin with the judge killer case, expansion was going under way at the offices of Lockhart Gardner. The first expansion was that Eli, after being told by the DNC that they would provide him with a great law firm to set up his services while there is down time before Peter’s campaign for governor begins. Instead of having the DNC pick his firm, Eli goes to Diane, who gladly takes his services and makes gives Alicia a promotion by making her the liaison between Eli and the firm. So now Eli is Alicia’s boss and this combination will surely be delightfully entertaining and intensely interesting come next season.

Poor Kalinda

After making the decision to stay at the firm, Kalinda and Alicia try to work around the fact that they still have to work together. Kalinda was still mentally breaking down and it was only made worse after finding out that Sophia (Kelli Giddish, who needs to totally be around next season), who she had just slept with, was actually married. The look of guilt on Kalinda’s face was priceless and showed us that a new Kalinda was emerging, one who was beginning to care. It will be interesting to see how this plays out next season, especially with her relationship with Cary. The guy still deeply cares for her and even though she knows it, I think she is deeply afraid of what that might mean. I have a feeling we are in for some epic scenes between those two next season and personally I cannot wait!

Peter

Chris Noth wasn’t really in this episode very much but his scene with Will was downright chilling. I don’t think we’ve seen these two alone together before. It made for an interesting scene as these two men, with their poker faces on, talked to each other about the case. The tension between them is quite captivating and it perfectly sets up the tension that we will most certainly see next season: “It will be funny to be on opposite sides in court. But not laugh-out-loud funny”

If there was one thing I would have liked to see in this finale, it would have been a scene between Peter and Childs, it just would have been fun, especially since I felt like Titus Welliver was really underused in this episode. HOWEVER, his show on the CW did not get picked up, so BRING HIM BACK GOOD WIFE Peeps!

That final scene.

The Good Wife finally gave us what many of us had been wanting for a long time, that little window of opportunity that lead to Alicia and Will finally making the next step in their relationship. In my opinion, I thought that last scene was uttery perfect. I know that there are many out there who didn’t want this show to have Alicia and Will hook up, but seriously, if you didn’t see it coming from the Pilot, than you just weren’t paying that close attention to this show, because a lot of this show has been about Alicia and Will’s relationship and how he brings out a whole new side of her.

I honestly thought every step that lead to that final moment between Alicia and Will perfectly described their relationship. From the over-booked hotel, to having to pay $7800 for a the presidential suite, to the kid in the elevator who pushed every button, making their trip up to the room excruciatingly long, to Will being so anxious that he couldn’t open the door. On any other night, all of those signs probably would have led to Alicia fleeing the building, but this time, in this moment, she was patient and calm; she wanted that one, exceptional, moment with Will and boy I think she got it.

It will be very interesting to see how their exceptional moment plays out next season. I really don’t think there is a question of whether or not they hooked up in that hotel room. It was pretty obvious that Alicia was not going to let anything get in the way of that moment. So what will this mean for next season? My guess is that we still have a long road ahead before Alicia and Will can truly be together and that until then, they are going to have to find those windows of opportunities like they had last night, until that time comes. I’m fairly confident that Alicia’s relationship with Peter is over; it’s just going to be a struggle to legally get there, especially with Eli and the DNC’s political agendas.

Other Thoughts:

~Seriously, there NEEDS to be more Owen next season. His scene at the pizza restaurant with the Kids and running into Jackie was outstanding.

~ So who wants to bet that the whole Arnold Schwarzenegger love child scandal is going to pop up on The Good Wife next season? It’s too bad that the show already had a similar situation to the IMF guy’s scandal (See V.I.P treatment) because they could have used that one too.

~ I think that Kalinda and Alicia’s relationship is going to be repaired soon. You can already tell that those two are ever going to leave each other’s side, even if one of them wants to. The connection between them is too strong.

~ Next season I want to see a flashback to Alicia and Will’s days at Georgetown. I think it’s time TGW writers. Lets make this happen

As I finished this review it was announced that The Good Wife was picked up for a third season (all together now: YAY!!!) and that it would be moving to 9pm on Sundays. I personally think that is a great choice on CBS’s part. Desperate Housewives is a dying show, in its 8th season, and quite frankly, if people are choosing to watch that over this show, than they don’t deserve to watch this show!

I really hope it does well on Sundays because I really don’t want their third season to be its last. This show is just too good for that! So make sure you tune in next fall! Also, Spring 2012 is going to be AWESOME if AMC keeps Mad Men on Sunday’s at 10pm. What a night that will be, The Good Wife at 9 and then Mad Men at 10! Sunday Nights are going to end up being my favorite night of the week!!

The Good Wife Review: Getting Off

If Julianna Margulies is robbed of the Emmy again this year, I will throw a fit.

This week we got episode two in what I am calling The Good Wife’s season two three-part finale. Last week’s episode showcased some pretty powerful stuff from Peter and Alicia. Alicia had finally had enough and she had given Peter the boot. Now she was back at work, more focused than ever, when she finally had to face Kalinda. While their moments were nowhere near the intensity that happened between Peter and Alicia, their moments were still very emotional and sad. Call me an optimist but I still have hope for these two more so than I do for Alicia and Peter.

The case of the week, as usual, somewhat paralleled Alicia’s life when she was forced to take on a case involving a lawsuit against an internet company designed as a social networking/ dating site for married spouses to find people to have affairs with. This was not exactly the type of case Alicia wanted to be associated with, and given her current state, it made it extremely easy for her to not trust the defendant who was played by none other than a toned down Sarah Silverman. The case was a little boring for my taste but it did spark the returned of Marmi Gummer, whose show Off the Map is pretty much dead over on the alphabet network. I absolutely love any chance we get to see Meryl Streep’s talented daughter on my TV screen and if that means having to write a sleepy storyline to do it, then so be it.

I am glad that the episode really hammered into us why Alicia was so angry with Kalinda. That even though Alicia did not know Kalinda when Kalinda slept with Peter and that Alicia knew what type of woman Kalinda was, that the reason she was so mad was because Kalinda lied to her face about it, just like Peter did. Kalinda doesn’t let people in, like ever, and as we saw with Cary earlier in the episode, she is only slightly starting to let him into her life. Alicia was her best and only friend and vice versa (because lets be real, the only other friend we’ve seen Alicia let her guard down around is her brother.) So to see Kalinda breakdown throughout the entire episode was such a tour-de-force to watch. I know that the supporting-actress for drama is going to be packed this year but I wouldn’t complain in the least if Archie Panjabi wins again. From her physical breakdown to her laughter when she discovered that if she left Lockhart-Gardner she would have to work at the States Attorney’s office to the end when she walked back into Lockhart-Gardner more confident and guarded than ever, Archie was just plain and simply amazing to watch.

Julianna cemented her win for Best Actress this week in her amazing tense scene with mother in law Jackie. I thought last week’s confrontation was intense but MAN this week just knocked it out of the park. It is pretty damn clear that Jackie Florrick is delusional and will never change. She will never believe that her son has done anything wrong to Alicia and that Alicia will always be the one to blame. Seeing scenes like the one last week and the one this week seriously makes me wonder how the hell Mary Beth Peil stayed on Dawson’s Creek for six seasons?

Next week is the conclusion of this three-part season finale (and the actual season finale) of The Good Wife and from the looks of it, my guess is its going to be a steamy one. As I said early, last week we got the Peter episode, this week was Kalinda’s, and next week it’s going to be about Will and his reactions to finding out about what caused Alicia’s separation. How great was it that even though Kalinda knew that her friendship with Alicia was on the outs that she still cared enough to reopen that door to Will and Alicia’s relationship? I may not be the biggest fan of Alicia and Will but you can’t deny that there are sparks between them. Did you see that scene this week where the just stared at each other? Perfection.

I also loved how the began to set up Season three (when they get one) in this episode. Alicia and David Lee talking about divorce proceedings was very interesting watch. Next season is going to be the fight for Alicia’s heart and custody battles. It sure as hell is going to make for some great drama.

Can’t believe there is only one episode left this season. COME ON CBS PICK THIS SHOW UP ALREADY!! Thanks!

The Good Wife Review: In Sickness

Last night on The Good Wife we saw Alicia finally reach her breaking point, the return of Martha Plimpton, the wonderful and beautiful Ken Cosgrove, an awkward “hello” between Kalinda and Alicia, and a new alliance form between to unlikely characters. It was quite the set up for the final three episodes of the season.

We last saw Alicia, at the election party to celebrate her husband’s victory in being reelected as the new state’s attorney. Then at the last moment of that last episode, we saw Alicia find out from Cary’s investigator, Andrew, that Peter had a one night stand with Leela, whom Andrew didn’t know. However Alicia knew and the audience knew. Alicia had just found out that her husband slept with her best friend, Kalinda, someone Alicia thought would never hurt her. It was a powerful scene for Alicia and it was a hell of a way to break before a hiatus. This week we picked up right from that moment.

I knew we were in for one hell of an episode from the moment Alicia entered her apartment and just stared into the fridge right before she went and hastily packed all of Peter’s things and moved them to a new apartment. (Did anyone else find it really odd that you can get moves to come at such a late hour as well as get a real estate agent to help you rent an apartment? For some reason I still find that entirely to unrealistic.) Julianna Margulies is already a very very talented actress but what really got me last night was her subtle actions that showed she was ripping at the seams. As much as I would love love love for Elisabeth Moss to win the Emmy this year, I have to say, I think Margulies has it in the bag (and the season isn’t even over yet!)

Every scene that Alicia had with someone related to her relationship with Peter was just pure television gold. It all started with her first conversation with Peter after finding out about his one night stand with Kalinda. Peter says it was from the past that he’s a changed man but we all know that Alicia has had enough. I don’t blame her. I know there are many out there who are stand by your man (for example, Jackie) but I am sorry, I don’t condone cheating and the fact that Peter slept with so many woman during his marriage with Alicia didn’t do him any favors in my book. So I was extremely happy when she finally had enough and gave him the boot. I do have to give credit to Noth though, it’s hard to act against someone as great as Margulies but man did he hold his own in both his scenes last night with Alicia. Their scenes were positively chilly and ugly, as we saw these two come to the conclusion that their marriage was over.

Best scene of the night though has to go to that scene with her kids. Now I am not the biggest fan of Alicia’s kids, I find them really annoying but wow, they really held their own last night. That Alicia’s breaking point. We had seen her try and mask her pain and hurt since finding out and to watch her breakdown in front of her kids was so painfully brilliant. Just GIVE HER THE EMMY ALREADY!!!

And how about that last scene with Peter and Cary? I mean, Wow that was a pretty excellent ending in my book.  I like that these two are forming an alliance. I have no idea if it means that Cary will be a mole in Lockhart/Gardner or that he is going to continue to work with the State’s Attorney’s office but either way, I like it. It keeps around Peter and makes him have a storyline outside of his relationship with Alicia, so if the series is picked up for a third season (which is better damn well be) than I am sure we will still get to see lots of Chris Noth!

Aside from all of the Julianna Margulies goodness, we also saw the return of Martha Plimpton’s character Patti Nyholm. It was great to see her double/triple crossing her own firm as well as Lockhart/Gardner. She really is quite the character. I also have to say that it was GREAT to see Aaron Stanton from Mad Men play the lawyer who replaced Nyholm after she was fired. I haven’t seen him in anything else but Mad Men, so it was great to see that he’s great in pretty much any role he’s given. It’s an added plus as well to see any Mad Men star in an episode of television since it’s going to be awhile till that new season comes out.

It looks like next weeks is the big Alicia-Kalinda show down that we’ve all been waiting for since we first heard about Kalinda’s transgressions. It’s going to be epic, that’s for sure. I’m also waiting for that moment when Will finds out; I wonder what that will do to him. Two episodes left people. UGH! I really hope CBS isn’t stupid and picks this up for another season!

The Good Wife Review: Killer Song

“Its like when a storm is over — we don’t know whether to be happy or just relieved.”

After last week’s revelation (I’m taking back calling it a bombshell because Alicia still doesn’t know about it yet, neither does Cary, so when the day comes that, my friends, will be a Bombshell with catastrophic consequences) about Kalinda and Peter’s dirty little secret, I was happy to see The Good Wife slow things down this week, even if it was a little uneven in some places. The best parts of the episode involved every scene Kalinda was in and every scene Eli Gold had this week. If I had to name a VIP for the episode, it would be Eli and Kalinda; they each great performances this week.

Lockhart and Gardner handled the case of the daughter of a murder victim. The murder/rapist, Jarvis Bowes, had gotten off on a plea of insanity 30 years ago but had written a very successful song that seemed to be about her mother’s murder. The goal was to try and connect the lyrics from the song to the details of the murder. They were unable to do so because the song really wasn’t about the murder victims mother, it was about another murder/rape Bowes had committed. It was all very convoluted and complicated but it was awesome to see Alicia take hold of the case and discover that Bowes had in fact, killed another woman, even after Bowes asked Alicia to be his lawyer on another case. I have to say, even though this case was bizarre, I still enjoyed it. It was great to see The Captain from Gossip Girl play a crazy person. I feel like he had more work to do in one episode of The Good Wife than he has whenever he’s on Gossip Girl.

Best dialogue from the night:

Jarvis: “Standing by your man, I wrote a song about it.”
Alicia: “How gratifying.” ”
Jarvis: “I’ll send it you.”
Alicia: “Oh, goody.”

I still don’t really understand the point of this storyline with Eli and Natalie Flores. I get that she was brought in as a love-interest of sorts for Eli but the whole storyline seems flat. Yes, I get that she was used as a prop to sabotage Wendy Scott-Carr and back in that episode; the plotline was fine but now? Not so much; which is sad because I adore America Ferrera to no end but I hate seeing her in silly storylines, especially on a show that is as good as this one. However, I do want to see more scenes with Eli and his daughter. Alan Cumming, for some odd reason, just has FANTASTIC chemistry with young woman who are as snarky as he is. His daughter is so hilarious; their little argument about America SucksNo, People Suck, was just perfectly executed. More Alan Cumming, please.

This week we saw a different side of Kalinda; we saw her vulnerable side. It was great (and sad) to see Kalinda off her game for a change. This is a woman who is usually always put together and highly confident about everything. She misses a key part of the trial when Will needs her most to take a phone call regarding her drama. She calls Cary in the middle of the night to find out if he’s heard anything about Blake talking to an ASA and when Cary goes digging and finds out it was Matan who was given the interview, Kalinda goes straight to Peter for damage control. It’s not like either of these two to be in a panic mode, but even if they seemed calm as they talked to each other about their secret, the panic was there. Peter admitted that he had fallen in love with his wife again and he didn’t want to lose that. We all know that this is the silver bullet in their marriage. Once Alicia finds out, she’s gone. Sleeping with prostitutes is one thing but sleeping with a co-worker who is now best friends with your wife? That is fatal for everyone involved.

Alicia won’t find it easy to forgive him on this, maybe Kalinda down the road, but I don’t see Alicia and Peter recovering from this. If this is where the writers are headed, I predict that we will still see Peter next season. He won’t make divorce easy and if he is elected as the States Attorney than he won’t make it easy for Lockhart Gardner either. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens to his kids as well. With Grace and Zach ALWAYS using the internet, there is no way these kids won’t find out what he did. I just wonder how they will take it. Will they forgive him? Will they blame their mom? Or will they side with Alicia this time? Either way, it is sure going to be interesting to find out.

Next week brings back Michael J. Fox! Ok Good Wife just up this man to a recurring character because we know you love him! Really I Love Fox’s interactions with Alicia and next week sure looks like it will be a funny one, in midst of all the Kalinda/Peter drama.

The Good Wife Review: Ham Sandwich

This show, in my humble opinion, can do no wrong. The Good Wife isn’t usually one for big jaw dropping bombshells; this show isn’t on the CW for goodness sakes.  So when, at the end of the 17 episode (remember there is still 5-7 episodes left), Blake reveals to Kalinda that he knows her deep dark secret, that she slept with Peter to cover up her past, I was left with my mouth hitting the floor. It was the perfect kind of twist to end this already great episode.

The Case of the Week

When we were first introduced to Lemond Bishop (Wood Harris), I wasn’t quite sure where they were going to go with his plot. I honestly thought he would leave the minute Bond left but I was proven wrong, Lockhart Gardner wanted him to stay and with that they took on his already tricky divorce case. I have to say I kind of laughed at the fact that Alicia had to get emotionally invested with this guy, along with David Lee (whom I just want to say I LOVE!) but the story was rather interesting. They had to defend his illegal drug-dealing money away from his money crazed wife, who may or may not have been having an affair with the lawyer.

They started with mediation, something I don’t think we’ve seen on The Good Wife yet, so it was interesting to see them in this process of legal proceedings. It had been earlier revealed that Bishop’s legal businesses were close to bankruptcy and that the only reason he was staying afloat was because of his drug dealing business, something his wife was very much informed about. The FBI was brought in to state that his business was valued at $88 million, who did Alicia and David Lee bring in? None other than Bishop’s finance man played by Wire alum J.D. Williams, named Dexter Roja. When Bishop says he’ll give $1 million and his wife states NO and she’s taking the children if he doesn’t adjust that number up. After bringing in their son Dylan into mediation, Bishop caves and states he’ll settle at $21 million, but she won’t agree and they head to trial. Yet she doesn’t show because his wife OD’s the night before.

It’s pretty damn obvious by the smirk on Bishop’s face that he played a role in her overdose. His wife’s lawyer was more than convinced and you could tell that goodie-twoshoes Alicia was convinced Bishop played a role as well. I have to say, I really enjoyed that twist. It showed David and Alicia just who they are getting into bed with. Before I would have wanted The Good Wife to drop this storyline with Bishop but now, I’m intrigued. I really want to see how far deep Lockhart-Gardner will invest in Bishop and what kind of repercussions that will follow them.

The Campaign

I’m going to pause here for a minute and discuss the campaign before I get to the night’s big events. Peter is on the verge of beating Wendy Scott-Carr in the polls but Eli finds out that they need to secure the blue-collar votes if they really want to win this campaign. So he takes down every photo showing Peter will a colored person and shows that Peter wants to “restore old-Chicago.” This seriously bugs Grace (ughh I really don’t like her) and she calls Eli out after he tells Pastor Isaiah to hit the road and return after the election. She then tells her mom about Eli’s shenanigans and Alicia gets pissed and tells Eli that her kids can now be a part of the campaign. This means that Zach can bring his black girlfriend to Peter’s speech at Zach’s school. Eli is not happy but realizes he can’t be beat. I love that guy.

Kalinda, her legal case, and that bombshell

This week we finally see Kalinda confess to Alicia that she’s been called to a grand jury about an allegation that she beat a witness. Throughout this entire season we’ve seen Alicia and Kalinda’s friendship grow and blossom into something awesome. It’s Alicia’s one relationship that I can actually stand and it’s only gotten better as the season progressed. So this week we saw Alicia represents Kalinda at the grand jury (much to Child’s dismay) and protect Kalinda from incrementing herself. It is at the grand-jury that it is Blake who is Child’s star witness and that Kalinda isn’t really the target; Lockhart Gardner is.

Even though the firm is the main target, Child’s is still pressing against Kalinda, threatening an indictment that would leave her with a 2 year jail sentence. In an attempt to save herself, she told a story about how she followed Blake to a hotel, the same hotel where it was revealed that Bishop’s wife was having an affair. Blake decided to flee knowing that the wrath of Bishop was way worse than seeing Kalinda or Lockhart Gardner taken down. We discover this after Cary calls Alicia. I have to say, out of all the great scenes we had tonight, that was by far my favorite. Cary, after Kalinda, has always been a favorite character of mine. I love his interactions with everyone but he is always at his best when he has those great conversations with the woman of this show. Tonight, we got a great little moment between him and Alicia. After informing her that Blake had left town there was a little silence before Alicia sincerely asked Cary how he was doing and he responded with an honest answer “I don’t know…it’s going to be tough sledding her for a while.” She then wished him good luck and hung up. Maybe it’s just me, but I want Cary back at Lockhart Gardner. I want these two working together more often.

And just when we thought we had seen the last of Blake, he comes to meet Kalinda and EVERYTHING CHANGES.

For the past two seasons we have seen a great friendship develop between Alicia and Kalinda. It’s been a staple of the show, something that we could rely on after all that triangle drama. These two have such natural chemistry and every time they are on-screen together the scene gets about 20 times better. So now, our worst fears have been confirmed, back in the past, Kalinda slept with Peter so he would cover up her boring past.  I had a feeling from that episode in season one, the one where Kalinda is put on stand to testify at Peter’s trial, that they had sex in the past, but some part of me was hoping it wasn’t true. This revelation is going to change our favorite relationship and it will no doubt change the series. When Alicia finds out my guess is that it will be the final nail in the coffin for her relationship with Peter. She’s already looking for a way out, she doesn’t want to move into a big house; she wants to keep the life she has now and my guess is this development will lead her straight into the arms of Will, much to my dismay.

Speaking of Will… Did anyone else catch that quiet dialogue between Will and Blake? Blake spilled the beans on him, revealing that he covered up a theft for Will, probably from way back when they knew each other in DC. Just what did Will steal or embezzle? Man this episode reveled lots this week. I wonder how that little revelation will play out in the rest of the season or next season. I feel like Alicia is going to be let down a lot in these last chunk of episodes. Poor girl, she just can’t catch a break.

I have no idea what the consequences will be for Kalinda but I am sure they will be ghastly. It will surely make for some great drama. I just hope that the writers don’t change her too much. Kalinda is a person who on the outside, doesn’t seem to care about anyone but us viewers know wrong. She cares deeply about Alicia and she’s been doing everything she can to make sure her relationship with Alicia remains something of a constant in her life. Now that Blake and us viewers know her secret, I wonder what lengths Kalinda will go to keep her secret away from Alicia. Will it involve Peter? Will she kill Blake? Will she decide she should be honest and tell Alicia, hoping that Alicia will respect her honesty? There are so many possibilities and routes to choose. I can’t wait to see where this leads next and wherever it leads to, you know it will be pretty epic!

Favorite quote of the night: Grace: The Florrick children just really love black people.
